Flange coating can be defined as the application of a layer of material over the flange to prevent it from different factors. The coating can effectively reduce corrosion, damage and even improve the appearance of the flanges. It is one of the easiest and affordable ways of protecting the flanges. The coatings are easy to apply with the help of a brush or they can be sprayed on to the flange face. One of the best things about these coatings is that they are compatible with almost all types of metals. They dry up quickly and hence there is no long time involved. Flange coating can be used for various applications and they are readily available too.
However, there are certain disadvantages of the flange coating, like it is not able to keep the debris off the piping components. This is because the bore of the pipe is left open. Even though they might cover up for minor scratches, the flange coating will not protect the flanges from any type of mechanical impacts and also they can be scraped off easily. Also, this is not a convenient option for the long-term. The effectiveness of the flange coating depends a lot on the applicator, if the coating is not applied properly, it can cause rusting on the flanges. Thus, there are equal advantages and disadvantages of the flange coating process.
