Product Description

ASTM A756 440C is a specification for a chromium-carbon stainless steel used to make anti-friction bearings. It's a martensitic stainless steel that's high in carbon and chromium

Properties

• Hardness: When heat-treated, it can reach a Rockwell C of about 60, which is the highest hardness of any stainless steel 
   
• Corrosion resistance: It resists corrosion in normal domestic environments and some mild industrial environments 
   
• Fatigue resistance: It has good fatigue resistance

Heat treatment 

 

• It can be annealed for maximum softness by soaking at 1650°F for six hours
• It can be cycle annealed by heating to 1600°F, holding two hours, cooling to 1300°F, and holding four hours
