High creep strength is a desirable property in heat exchanger applications. Since heat exchangers have continuous exposure to elevated temperatures, the need for durable material like the 321 Stainless Steel Seamless Tubing comes into the picture. Not only is the material able to withstand elevated levels of heat, but the corrosion resistance properties of the WERKSTOFF NR.1.4541 Heat exchanger Tube are excellent, giving them a long or extended service life.
Although the alloy is an austenitic stainless steel one, the chemical composition of ASTM A249 TP321 Instrumentation Tubes contains a stabilizing element. Titanium, which is a stabilizing element in its chemistry, aids in carbide stabilization. Carbide precipitation is a problem associated with welding at high temperatures. Carbide precipitation occurs at a temperature range of 800 - 1500°F, thus causing intergranular corrosion. Unlike the other traditional austenitic alloys, the stabilization of Stainless Steel 321 Seamless Tube hinders the formation of carbide precipitates, thus, optimizing the weldability properties of the alloy.
The stress rupture properties of grade SS 321 Cold Rolled Coiled Tubing are higher than grade 304 and grade 304L. Because of this property, the chances of sudden failure of the material occurring when the ASTM A249 TP321 Welded Tube is minimal, making it a valuable addition in high-stress applications. Similar to several austenitic stainless steel alloys, the UNS S32100 U Tube possesses good low-temperature toughness. The excellent hardness property that is a signature of the SS 321 ERW Tubes is achieved by cold working.
